  1. Make ready 1 cup toor dal
  2. Make ready 2 cups water
  3. Take 1 tbsp ghee
  4. Get 1 tsp Cumin seeds

  7. Make ready 1 spring Curry leaves
  8. Take Pinch hing
  9. Make ready 1 chopped onion

  13. Make ready 1 tsp Turmeric powder

  17. Take 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  18. Get As required Fresh coriander leaves
  19. Get 1 tsp Kasuri methi
  20. Make ready As required water

It is a delicious toor dal recipe from Punjab which is flavoured with ginger, green chilli and lemon juice. A tempering of ghee,cumin, garlic and cinnamon adds to the flavour of the dal. The basic toor dal recipe makes use of a handful of ingredients so, ensure they are fresh and do. Instructions to make Toor dal:
  1. Firstly in a pressure cooker take 1 cup toor dal and 2 cup water.
  2. Pressure cook for 5 whistles or till dal gets cooked completely.
  3. Now in another kadai heat 1 tbsp ghee splutter 1 tsp mustard, 1 tsp jeera, 1 dried red chilli, few curry leaves and a pinch of hing.
  4. Add in 1 onion followed by 1 tsp ginger garlic paste and 1 green chilli. saute well.
  5. Further add ¼ tsp turmeric, ½ tsp chilli powder and ½ tsp coriander powder. saute on low flame.
  6. Additionally add 2 tomatoes and saute till it turns soft and mushy.
  7. Now whisk the cooked dal to smooth consistency.
  8. Add the cooked dal along with 1 tsp salt. mix well.
  9. Further add required water and adjust the consistency.
  10. Simmer for 5 minutes or till dal turns smooth and absorbs flavour.
  11. Now add ¼ tsp garam masala, 1 tbsp coriander and 1 tsp crushed kasuri methi.
  12. Finally, serve toor dal with hot rice.
