Usually we make the rasam with the cooked water (broth) that's left over after cooking the lentil when we make kollu pappu/dal. Kollu (Horse Gram) is combined with coconut, onion and roasted gram dal to make the healthy and tasty Kollu Chutney.   1. Soak horse gram in the cup of water over night.
  2. Next morning in a pressure cooker,add the soaked hourse dal and add water.add salt to taste and termeric powder.
  3. Close the cooker with lid and pressure cook for 5-6 whistles.Let the pressure release naturally.
  4. Heat in heavy bottom pan on medium flame add oil and curry leaves.Add ginger garlic paste, saute it and let it cook medium flame until raw aroma of goes away.Add onion, saute until translucent.Add tomatoes,red chilli powder,salt and garam masala powder. Cover and let it cook for 4 to 5 mins.
  5. After add the mashed hourse gram into the pan. Cover and let it simmer for about 4 to 5 mins.
  6. Ture off the flame and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.
  7. Serve with chapati or rice as you like.
